WHAT IS AUTISM

Autism spectrum disorder is a complex developmental disorder that is categorized by:

       1. Deficits in social interaction and communication

2. Repetitive of restrictive patterns of behaviour and or interests

You may have heard the saying, “If you’ve met one person with autism, you’ve met one person with autism.”

This is because every person with autism is unique and has their own strengths and needs.

The image below helps to visualize “the spectrum” for autism and the variation found within it. Imagine that the wheel, with its key autism characteristics, is spinning as it slides left and right across the bar of support levels. The combination of characteristics and support levels are practically infinite.
