Who Is Lionsgate Foundation (LGF)

Lionsgate Foundation (LGF) is a non-profit organisation that is dedicated to raise awareness, create infrastructure and run initiatives that will help educate and integrate people with Autism Spectrum Disorder in to society.

There are 1 in 30 children who are diagnosed with Autism in the US alone, worldwide the stats are 1 in 60. This makes it the most common and fastest growing developmental disorder amongst children. More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than AIDS, diabetes and cancer combined.

South Africa is extremely deficient in terms of the basic services that can be provided to children with ASD. Both public and private schools in SA are not adequately equipped with resources and the prerequisite skills to identify and teach children with ASD. As a result these children’s constitutional right to basic education cannot be met, which makes this a humanitarian issue that affects our society as a whole. With these kind of statistics, South Africa has to urgently prioritise and create ways to accommodate and assist children with ASD.

This is why, LGF prioritises the education of children with ASD.

There are an abundance of resources on ASD available, but the financial burdens families face after a diagnosis tend to get overlooked.

LGF will work with families and schools to take some of the financial burden off their shoulders. By providing funding for programs that benefit a child’s specific needs, LGF lets families know they are not alone in their efforts and gives them hope for the future. LGF believes in the celebration of neurodiversity and this is represented in the rainbow colours in our logo. The symptoms and intervention of ADHD and ASD often overlap, which is why our initiatives allow us to cater to both diagnoses.
